Portugal - Sustainable forestry

The project promotes local and sustainable development of a valley in Portugal through reforestation activities and the co-management of forest resources by rural communities with the main goal to promote sustainable development, creation of income and improve quality of life of the local population. It is located in a National Park.

Some of the project's benefits are:

  • promotion of reforestation activities, the conservation of forest resources, the introduction of fire prevention systems, reactivation of old community greenhouses, monitoring of land use and maintaining biodiversity.
  • strengthening of the environmental management and control systems of the National Park.
  • amplifying the research activities in the National Park through cooperation with universities, NGOs, associations and other entities.
  • local benefits by improving the quality of life of local communities and generating job opportunities and eco-tourism in the region.
